After seeing Tiffany Haddish in her breakout role in Girl’s Trip, I’ve been rooting for her success. As her secret cheerleader, I was interested in reading her book, The Last Black Unicorn, to get a better understanding of who she is and her story.
The book is relatively short and a very easy read (It took me about 3 days to read). It is segmented into anecdotal stories that are loosely tied together. The book is written exactly how Tiffany talks, which for some can be a good or bad thing. For me, I hated it. While it makes it easier to read, it lacks sophistication. However, it was the last segment of the book that cleared up everything. Her purpose for writing the book was to be funny. Therefore, her book reads, and I assume written, like a stand-up comedy set. The stories are not in depth but just enough to grasp the punch line.
Would I recommend the book? No. Many of the stories you probably have heard of you follow her and have seen any of her interviews. This book was probably a lot better in the audiobook form because her voice is so apparent when reading. I will say her story is very inspirational! She found her passion early and showed resilience in attaining her goals.
I will still be rooting for her success because I love her unadulterated personality.
