As a true 90s kid, I was straight up pissed when I heard they were remaking Jumanji. First of all, the first Jumanji is one of my favorite movies. Second of all, I did not want another movie with The Rock and Kevin Hart.
Out of pure boredom, I watched a bootleg copy of Jumanji. No, I was not paying for it for previously stated reasons. The premise is much different from the original. This time around instead of the characters from the board game seeping into the real world, the players get sucked into a video game. Initially, I thought this was so stupid. However, by getting sucked into the game, we get a completely different perspective from the original movie. While the movie isn’t an awarding winning piece, it is definitely worthy of your consideration. It was a lot better than I expected. It wasn’t super cliche or corny. It had some funny parts. Ultimately the movie messaged you have one life to live.
You were probably like me, avoiding this film so that it doesn’t taint your nostalgia towards the original. But trust me, it won’t! That left no room for a sequel so maybe things will be left where they are.
I would say a 3/5 rating.
