Animal attractions are the thing to do in Thailand. I wasn’t going to miss my opportunity to see tigers or elephants, and we did both in one day!
Many animal rights activists are opposed to these tiger attractions and I completely see why. However, I also like the idea of getting close to such a majestic animal. Truly a catch 22.
We went to Tiger Kingdom Phuket. They offer a various range of tiger sizes from the small cubs to the very large tiger. We opted for the medium which has me very scared of what the large would look like.
The medium was 900 Baht which is about $30. Not bad at all.
In the cage, there are 3 tigers in various areas and you go around taking pictures with each one. These tigers are so unbothered and did not seem happy at all. I know the tigers are heavily sedated which is saddening.
After getting photos with all 3 tigers, you are done. In all it’s probably 10 to 20 minutes.
Later in the day, we went to swim with elephants.
For 700 Baht, we were able to take a few pictures with elephants. This place was also not touristy or crowded. The water at the beach was so clear!
All-in-all, I love that the animals are accessible. I would love to see them roaming free but I also understand that this is income for someone.
