I had never been to Seattle, and never really thought of traveling to Seattle until my best friend decided to move there almost 2 years ago. I decided to visit during her birthday weekend, which is always a fun time to catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while.
I was in Seattle for five days, Friday to Tuesday. In those five days, I was able to explore many of the tourist spots in Seattle as well as explore the arts scene (since my best friend is a dancer).
Entertainment
Seattle seems like an extremely cultured-filled place that offers a variety of different things to do, probably because the weather is so unconventional that there needs to be a plethora of indoor and outdoor activities. My experience could very well be skewed because my friend is heavily in the arts. Nonetheless, I got to experience some of Seattle’s best.
Can Can Culinary Cabaret
My best friend’s friend is a part of the Can Can Culinary Cabaret cast and was able to get us a table. The Can Can is such a great idea. As you eat some of the most delicious food, you are thoroughly entertained by performances based on interesting facts about Seattle. For a visitor, it is like taking a theatrical crash course on Seattle’s history. Thee best part was the food. I order the Market Breakfast which included eggs, potatoes, and chicken rosemary sausage. My best friend and I shared a crab cake, which was absolutely delicious. The food is purchased fresh from the Pike Place Public Market. So good!
Seattle Art Museum
The Seattle Art Museum (SAM) is hosting a wonderful exhibit called “Thinking History”, but is also the current home of a beautiful Basquiat piece.
This piece only has a temporary home at SAM and then will be transported to Japan, where an artist is building an art museum in his hometown.
There is also other amazing art on display like this Warhol piece.
I also liked this piece in which a huge rat is on top of person. What do you think it means?
“Figuring History” Exhibit
The “Figuring History” exhibit showcases the work of three African-American artist, Robert Colescott, Kerry James Marshall, and Mikalene Thomas. Each artist had absolutely beautiful artwork. If you have the chance to see this exhibit, I would highly recommend.
Kidd Pivott & The Electric Company Theatre – Betroffenheit
As I have said before, my best friend is a magnificent dancer and was told by her dancer friends that she must see this show. She was able to get us both free tickets and I am so glad that I was able to see this piece. It is very dark, and had I not researched the show prior, I would have been so confused. Peep the trailer to the show below.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57jTy8L4Z-A]The dancers are great! The lighting and set were awesome. If you can check out this show, I would highly recommend.
Food
Ezell’s Famous Chicken
I was looking for something easy to eat and decided to stop into Ezell’s Famous Chicken. I wasn’t too hungry but knew that I should eat. I ordered the Snack Pack, which is one piece of chicken (breast) and Cajun fries. The chicken was okay but the fries were so good!
Red Star Tacos
My best friend and I were actually on our way to getting Asian food from another restaurant when we passed Red Star Taco. We decided to pop in and so glad that we did. I had the three tacos with a side of rice. I had one catfish taco, one blackened Alaskan rockfish taco and one tequila lime chicken taco. All three were so good! Of all three, the blackened Alaskan rockfish was my favorite.
Dough Zone Dumplings
I absolutely love Asian cuisine. It is on the top of my food lists. After visiting, International District, my best friend and I stopped in on this lovely spot called Dough Zone Dumplings House. We ordered a plethora of food and shared everything. I had a chicken wonton soup that was absolutely everything! It was so flavorful. My best friend is a vegetarian, so we each got an order of pot stickers (chicken and vegetarian). We also had crab dumplings and broccoli. Everything was so great.
Tourist Spots
Pike Place Market
I had always heard about Pike Place Market as it is one of the most important destinations of Seattle. I was not able to see anyone throw a fish but I was able to walk up and down Pike Place. I even saw people line up for Starbucks (when there are 1000 Starbucks in Seattle).
The Gum Wall
I have a huge obsession with gum so visiting the Gum Wall was a mandatory. This wall is absolutely disgusting. The walls are lined with pieces of gum, some hanging like goo or spelled into various letters, words, and shapes. It’s absolutely disgusting but I knew I wanted to take part.
I wish I had some thicker gum, but all I had was extra so we made it work. Best friends stuck together on the wall!
Bremerton, Washington
We took at ferry to Bremerton, Washington. It is about a 2 hour drive from Seattle, but a simple 45 minutes to one hour ferry ride. It is a beautiful place. We didn’t do much but we did go to the Scenic Beach State Park. It was absolutely beautiful. Along the beach, there were very large oysters. I think I have fallen in love with Seattle. Despite its weather, it is an awesome place. I could also be that I missed my best friend. I will for sure be returning to Seattle when I get the chance.
