My reading challenge continues! I just completed Ronne Brown’s From Mopping Floors to Making Millions: 5 steps to Building an Online Brand. This is a self-help, or guide, to monetizing your Instagram account.
I was able to finish this book in a matter of hours being that it is only 128 pages. What kept me reading nonstop was the author’s story. Ronne Brown was a teenage mother who went from being a janitor to now being an outstanding entrepreneur. I was not too familiar with the author prior to picking up this book, but hearing her testimonial definitely drew me in and made me want to know more. As far as the content of the book, it is the same rhetoric common in most information about leveraging Instagram for profitable gains. However, there were some key quotes that stood out to me as I was reading and thought I’d share.
My Key Quotes
…look at what you love to do, what are you always doing, look around your house, and build your business around that.
I could not agree with this point more! I am currently looking to explore starting a business centered around fashion because that is a passion of mine. This blog was created out of my passion of disseminating information. I am realizing more and more each day that I have to live this life as best I can doing things that I absolutely love!
What women have to realize is, the more people we teach who thrive, the more credible we become as entrepreneurs.
I love that Brown referenced the “crab in the bucket” mentality because it is extremely prevalent amongst women and Black women in particular. We have sociohistorically been conditioned to withhold from sharing how we accomplish anything, down to where we even buy our clothes! I personally have reached out to “successful” women via Instagram and have received no responses. Not that anyone owes me anything but the lack of collaboration is disheartening. I am always looking for personal, professional, academic advise. I reach out and give back when I can because what is the point of holding on to the keys when I can help to open someone else’s door!
Collaboration is how we grow our networks and credibility as business owners.

The day you start believing in yourself, in being confident in yourself, and speaking affirmations over yourself and actually believing you deserve success, you are going to see a transition in how people take to you, receive you, respect you, and how they align themselves with you.
I have been on this wave as of late! I have been saying my affirmations, exuding confidence and I truly believe my purpose and passions have been revealing themselves. My stars are aligning and I am anxious, excited and nervous for the journey I am embarking on.
Act as if you’re still broke.
A FOREVER MOOD! I act broke a lot even when I am not. I am always broke. Repeating this saying to myself keep grinding, hustling, working towards my dreams. It keeps me grounded especially during times when I overspend.
Stay in your lane and you’ll never crash.
I am slowly discovering and carving my lane. I have no intention on switching lanes, cutting anyone off, or tailing anyone. By staying in my lane, I will not crash. Matter of fact, let’s carpool sis! We all can get to our destinations lol
When you take those risks and things don’t work, it doesn’t mean that it is over. I want readers to know that it means they should go back to the beginning, start over, and come back again.
8 years ago, I started a blog and fell off. 2 years after that, I started back up and blogged for 4 years and gave up. Now I am back to blogging. I started a clothing line and it didn’t take off so I quit. Now, I am toying with the idea again. I have been going through this cyclical process. I have taken the risks, lost money but still circle back, which leads me to believe it’s gotta be destiny. However, the one change is I am adding consistency.
