Children of Blood and Bone is such a thrilling read! If you like Harry Potter, you will love the adventure that swirls Nigerian culture, magic, family and love.
I cannot deny that it did take me some time to get into this book. I was constantly starting the book and putting it down to read other things, but I ultimately got to a turning point where I did not want to put it down. It was rich in history about Nigeria and Nigerian culture, it was exciting and unexpected, and it presented a great love story.
Tomi Adeyemi, the author, stopped by Jimmy Fallon to explain how the story came about. Watch below.
I am not one to give spoilers because the purpose is to encourage you to read the book as well. However, I will say the book is a fictional rhetoric of the ways in which Black people are being hunted and gun downed in these streets. (Just in case you were not able to draw that connection.) Black people are MAGICAL, have been and will forever be magical. However, those in power seek to steal our magic and keep us contained.
Thank you to Tomi for writing such a well-crafted masterpiece. The book is set to be one of many and will also be turned into a film(s).
