On the Run II is the best tour of the year! I have attended my fair of concerts this year and there has been no show that compares.
Back in 2014, I attended the first On the Run and was stunned by the thoughtfulness that was put into that show. However, there was some emotional disconnect between Jay and Bey. My hypothesis is that Jay Z and Beyoncé were going through their marriage woes. Headlines during the time confirmed this hypothesis. Their chemistry on stage (at least during the LA show) was just not there in comparison to their other public performances.
Fast forward four years and this couple is both happy at home and in their careers. Within those four years we (as fans) were able to digest Lemonade and 4:44. We have seen the progression of this couple’s marriage and how it has made each of them a better person and thus a better performer.
I was able to see this tour twice, in Los Angeles (Rose Bowl Stadium) and San Diego (Qualcomm Stadium). Each experience was different, offering a different perspective. If you attended the show, you know that depending on which side of the stadium you are sitting you get a different view of Jay or Bey. If you sit on the left side of the stadium, the bigger screen is focused on Jay with Bey being on the other. So when I attended the show, I sat on different sides of the stadium each time. As a result, I favored Beyoncé one night and Jay the other.
I see you Jay Z!
In the past year I have seen Jay Z twice on his on solo tour and it didn’t even compare to the energy that he displayed during this tour. In my opinion, I was more excited and impressed by Jay than I was Beyoncé. That is is no way to diminish the presence and being that is Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter. The visuals, the musical arrangements, the lights, the transition – everything was so thought through that seeing it come together was sensational and spectacular.
Who is better than Beyoncé?!
Nonetheless, BEYONCÉ IS THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER OF OUR GENERATION AND POSSIBLY OF ALL TIME! I was enamored by her beauty, her body, her voice, and her ability to dance and sing so effortlessly. Hearing her sing the standout track of the tour “Resentment” was the highlight of my experience. She sings the song differently each night. The way that she sang it in San Diego definitely deserved to be recorded (stupid me) and needed an award.
What will happen next?
Jay Z and Beyoncé are only in competition with themselves. Hopefully we can get another solo album and tour out of Bey.
