These last few months I have been infatuated with the idea of marriage (probably because I haven’t even found husband material as I rapidly approach 30). I saw a number of different friends posting that they were currently reading An American Marriage by Tayari Jones.
This book starts like a traditional love story and makes a very drastic turn which is a page-turning rollercoaster. This book was so good that I did not put it down and read it within a single week. It highlights Black love, Black entrepreneurship, our penal system, heartbreak, friendship, and so much more. I loved it!
Would I recommend?
Absolutely. The book didn’t explicitly tell you what the messages were, but it subtly left an impact that has me asking all kinds of questions about relationships (that I am not even in). Thank you to Tayari for producing such thought provoking work.
