My school hosted a book drive where I purchased this book. The cover definitely caught my eye and had me interested. It was not until I read the book that I found out I shared the last name with the main character, and even my birthdate came up multiple times throughout the book.
This book is different from many books that I read because it is more light and comical. However, in very subtle ways, it touches on topics of depression, belonging, and mother-daughter relationships (which I completely identify with).
This book is also written in a very different style. It is a series of emails and various correspondence woven into narrative told from the perspective of Bee Branch, an eight grader. Her mother has lost her way after relocating to a new place (Seattle from Los Angeles) and just randomly disappears. Bee is determined to find her by piecing together the information.
Would I recommend this book?
If you need a light-hearted, easy read, then yes! It was a fairly quick read from start to finish, and it had some funny moments. I am always appreciative of books that reflect mother-daughter relationships being that I am so close with my mother.
