Book 14 was Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward and I didn’t really care for it so I am going to act as though it never happened.
I will not meet my reading challenge goal of 30 books but I am still pressing on. I was strolling through Target (my happy place), when I stumbled upon “The Proposal” in the books section. I was drawn into the cover being an LA native. Then, I discovered there’s a prequel (if you want to call it that) called “The Wedding Date”. I grabbed both and I am so glad it did!
I am generally not a Rom-Com reader but after reading these two books I think I am (but probably because I am so single). Both books are a quick read and have an easy to follow storyline. Additionally, the main female character in both books is Black and successful in their careers, so I am all the way here for it!
I favored “The Wedding Date”. It is, briefly, about two working professionals, who meet after being stuck together in an elevator and accompanies the other to a wedding that he doesn’t want to be a part of. They fall in love and all the butterflies are felt. As the reader, I appreciated most that they both had their own lives but made the time to see each other despite work.
“The Proposal” is about a woman rejecting a proposal at Dodger Stadium (jumbotron and all) but then falling in love with the man who helped her escape from the pandemonium. Interesting concept, I know, but it turned out that the book revealed to me that it is okay to vocalize what you want and what you care about.
I would recommend both books because they are just so dang on cute! There are cross-references of the characters in both books which adds to the investment in the series (if you want to call it that). Hopefully, Jasmine writes another book!
