I absolutely loved this book! It had the right amount of wit and sexy, as well as pop culture references to make me feel as if I’m right there with the characters. I’m not one to spoil a book but there are things I have to explore so there will be slight spoilers in this post.
The book follows Jenna Jones as she is trying to reestablish her life post break-up. She has to rely on a frenemy for a new job. Skipping over some details (because you’re going to read the book), she ends up in a working and romantic relationship with the frenemy/boss’ son, who happens to be 18 years younger than her.
After reading this book, I started to question whether or not age really is nothing but a number. Could you soulmate just be born and you have to meaningless date until he is of age? That’s the extreme end of it but has society really placed stigma around dating that lead us to believe we must be in the same age range as our partners? I’ve always been the stickler of never dating someone younger, and probably never will but I will say this book has me slightly more open to the idea. Granted, these are fictional characters but they had more in common with one another and felt secure with one another in comparison to her more destined partnership.
Even if you never get around to reading this book, you’re in luck because it is set to become a movie with Gabrielle Union playing the lead role. I would be curious to see who they will cast as Eric. Thanks Tia Williams for a great story.
