My latest lime-green music goddess obsession is Alex Mali. Her colorful hair and seeing girls double dutch in her “Start It Up” video caught my eye on Twitter and truly sparked my interest in learning more. After listening to her project, Sweet and Sour EP, for the last few months, I felt that it was necessary for me to share with you all as well.
Alex Mali was raised in Brooklyn, New York to a Trinidadian father and Jamaican father. She grew up listening to a variety of music, which is apparent in her own music style. Alex describes her sound as a “Mood” and honestly there is no other way to describe it. Her sounds is a youthful, balanced mesh of SZA, Solange, and Badu. But sis, definitely has the range with a pen to match.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve listened to “No Limits”. The lyrics, the sound, the vibe, it’s just great! Her entire Sweet and Sour EP, from to start to finish, is just good music. I am excited for her musical journey.
Next Friday, March 27th, Alex Mali is releasing her next project Problem. If it is anything like what she has given so far, it is definitely time to take notice to what this beautiful soul has to offer. I am recruiting all of my friends to be a part of the Malia Mafia because sis deserves!
