In this blog post, I will share my tips of how to not have ghostly makeup. There are ways to correct your makeup even when you have the wrong shade. I was sent some Revlon products for review, however I was sent the wrong shade for my complexion. Instead of being upset, or starting all over, I turned this face from Casper to contoured, okay?!
I was sent three products to test for review. The first was the Revlon PhotoReady Prime Plus Makeup and Skincare Primer. I can say that I did like this product. It is very light, offers a subtle glow to the skin, and has a hint of lemon smell. I was also sent the Candid Glow Anti-pollution foundation in the number 350. This was a bit too light for me and gave me a white caste. However, I can say that the consistency is very smooth and had I been given the correct shade could have been a keeper. I was also sent the SkinLights Prismatic Bronzer. This is not a bronzer but more a highlight and they could have just said that.
TIP: Finding your right shade is key to good makeup!
This is probably common knowledge for many but we see it all day long on the gram where people are not wearing their correct shade. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING should blend. This means that your hands, your neck, your ears, and even your hairline and scalp should all be the same, or very close to the same in color. Unfortunately, I was sent a shade too light. In this instance, I put on as little as possible to serve as a base for other products to be applied on top and to match the product.
TIP: Go Heavy on the Concealer
In my typical makeup routine, I would wear a concealer that is two to three shades lighter than my actual completion. Since I was already light from the foundation, I recommend wearing a concealer that is your shade or very close, and put on more than usual, a.k.a. a lot. This is going to essentially correct the foundation mishap. My current favorite concealer of the moment is the Maybelline Master Conceal by FaceStudio. A little definitely goes a long way and this is a full coverage concealer. In my opinion, it is a budget-friendly dupe of Kat Von D‘s concealer, which I also love but don’t want to spend the money on.
TIP: CBB – Contour, Bronzer & Blush!
You may still look a little crazy after putting on foundation too light and then a whole lot of concealer, but that is okay! You are going to add color back to your face by following CBB. That is Contour, Bronzer and Blush. Personally, I like contour, bronzer and blush powders but liquid versions are just as effective. I am still using a contour palette from years ago from BH Cosmetics. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available. I use the dark brown to contour and a mix of the two blushes. My all-time favorite bronzer is NARS Casino (the original) but my current fav is Fenty Beauty “Coco Naughty”. Supporting Black-owned makeup brands has important!
At this point, you should start to look like yourself! (I hope.) In the video below I showcase how I turned from Kasper to Kandace (you see what I did there!)
