There’s a saying that a woman should never marry for love. This statement is Evelyn Hugo. The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo is one of the best books that I read this year!
Evelyn Hugo landed in Hollywood to pursue a career in acting. She had to be connected with the movers and shakers in order to move up the fame ladder. However, Evelyn Hugo’s true love was a woman but due to the time period they could not publicly be together.
First, I love a period piece. There is something spectacular about being transported to another time period. This novel starts in the 1950s, vintage Hollywood. The author does a good job offering enough Los Angeles gems to make you feel that you are definitely traveling back into time.
I truly appreciated that this novel introduced me to a fresh perspective that I had never considered. Being that I am not a queer woman, I have a single clue of how it would feel to not be able to publicly love someone because of public opinion. Thankfully we have come a long way since.
I also loved that this novel went back and forth between past and present. It keeps the story fresh and interesting. As always, I am going to advise you to read the book because I don’t want to give too much away. You can pick up your copy here.
There is a possibility that this book will become a movie. I think if done correctly, this movie should be absolutely beautiful. Be sure to read the book so that you are ready if and when the movie releases.
