I was probably the most excited for Marlo to receive her peach for season 14. Does Marlo actually deserve to be a peach holder after a number of pointless fights and questionable Munty behavior?
Now ten episodes into season 14, I am leaning towards Marlo better serving as a “Friend of” role. Frankly, I am not interested in her life or her using her nephews for a storyline. I also think that she is picking pointless fights to be sure to secure that peach for the future.
Marlo was best as “Friend Of”
Marlo was phenomenal in her role as Friend of. In a recent rewatch of RHOA’s older seasons, Marlo actually came on the show initially as a friend of Phaedra, who, I believe, was trying to cause a rift with Nene because Nene and Marlo were dating the same guy (Charles Grant). Then, we see the formation of the Talls, when she connects with Nene over their love of fashion. She has had iconic moments as a Friend. Her fight with Sheree in Africa definitely goes down as one of the funniest moments on RHOA.
The shade slinging between her and Eva in Tokyo was great to watch.
I am realizing that Marlo does not really have a life that I am interested in knowing more about. I thought we would see more into how she gets her money. A questions so many of us have been asking. It was also assumed that viewers would see how her business operates and maybe some of her high-profile clients. Instead, she is milking her nephews for a story line and constantly poking fights with Kandi and Kenya.
Her Nephews Shouldn’t Be A Storyline
Viewers applauded Marlo for stepping up for her nephews and taking on the role of Munty. Her handsome nephews have been seen joining their Auntie Marlo to different RHOA events across various seasons now. With Marlo getting a peach, I expected to see a lighter, softer side of the relationship. What we have seen thus far seems to be exploiting the relationship for TV time. First, I wholeheartedly believe that we should not be seeing as much of this story as we are. Millions of viewers are seeing these young boys go through life-altering changes. I think it could potentially add to an already traumatic situation. Also, I don’t think it is fair to them because Marlo signed up for the show, not Michael and William. I completely understand that when someone signs up for reality TV they are expected to show all sides of themselves. I think it would have been perfectly fine for Marlo to keep some of these family matters to herself.
Marlo vs. Kenya is Stale
For years we have seen Marlo and Kenya go back and forth in one of the most meaningless fights in Housewives history. Without this feud we would not have gotten the infamous “KENYA MOORE HAIR CARE” chant. For that I am forever indebted. But it is very stale that these two are constantly fighting. I don’t even think these two know what they are truly even fighting about anymore. They bicker just for the sake of bickering. The most fascinating thing about this feud is that Marlo is doing Kenya the same way Kenya was constantly antagonizing Porsha. Kenya putting her hand in Marlo’s face at the Drop It For Drew workout event could be seen as a sign of provoking. Very similar to Kenya did pointing the scepter at Porsha. Marlo is constantly bringing up the fact that Kenya can’t keep a man. Also very similar to arguments Kenya tried to use against Porsha.
Can She Earn Her Peach?
It is still very early in the season. Marlo can for sure make a comeback and show the viewers that she deserved that peach. I was riding for my girl and was truly hoping that something great would come from it. I am a bit apprehensive. We have always gotten authenticity from Marlo. Now, I need her to be more genuine. This would require her to truly think before she speaks. Also to not hit below the belt in disagreements with her cast mates. It could also look like not trying to start shit just for the sake of making someone else “work for their peach”. Marlo’s focus should be on maintaining her own!
