I am a Jasmine Guillory stan. I love her books, her writing style, and that she puts California references in most of her books. She even includes just enough spice to make things hot but not uncomfortable. She is the moment when it comes to rom-com writing. I was more than excited to get an advanced copy of her latest book, “Drunk on Love”. Keep reading for my review.
Unrealistic Expectations
A blaring theme within this book is the need to not place unrealistic expectations on things. Margot and Luke started out as a one night stand with really no intention of being anything serious. If Luke was not hired to the work at the winery their relationship would have stopped that night. Even more so the speed of which their relationship developed created unrealistic expectations for one another. Margot felt that she was entitle to know more about Luke, when he was being very transparent.
As you read this book, you will realize that Margot really is unreasonable. She is definitely an over thinker which ultimately leads her to being very type a. When it came to the party at the winery, she really had a tantrum that someone got drunk at her event. Like girl! You are at a winery with an open bar, it was bound to happen.
Even the way she navigates the relationship with her brother is somewhat odd. She makes the assumption that he doesn’t think much of her, which I understand since she overheard him saying that she didn’t deserve the winery. Yet, she didn’t even have the lines of communication open with him. When her and her brother finally sat down to talk, he clearly was working through some things independently.
My Review
This is an easy read. I was able to finish the book in just three days. The story is very easy to follow, which I attribute to Jasmine Guillory and her writing style. For the most part the characters are likeable but I don’t think I would be friends with Margot. She seems to create problems for herself because she is an over-thinker.
My favorite Jasmine Guillory books
I love most of Jasmine’s books but The Proposal and The Wedding Party are two of my favorites.
