We are halfway through the year, and while I’ve read some really good books, here are some of my favorites so far…
The Kiss Countdown by Etta Easton
This book was very cute! I absolutely enjoyed the banter between the characters.
These two end up in a fake relationship because astronaut Vincent wants to convince his family that he is not lonely. As always a fake relationship ends up in real love.
Etta Easton’s writing is so warm. I truly did not want to put this book down. It was also the ‘For The Lovers’ Romance Book Club selection in February. If you are interested in the book club sign up here.
The Wedding People by Alison Espach
Nearly 100,000 people believed that this was the best fiction book of last year on Goodreads, and I might have to agree with them.
Phoebe travels to a luxurious hotel with the hopes of ending her life, but ends up bumping into a wedding party that completely derails the plans.
While there were many predictable moments, this book does a good job of encouraging you to live for yourself and live in the moment. Also, it’s never too late to start over if that is necessary. The humor and wit in the writing was also phenomenal. I can definitely see this book being adapted into a miniseries or even a movie.
Just Our Luck by Denise Williams
Denise Williams is one of my favorite romance writers.
“Just Our Luck” is such a swoony, accidental love story where Sybil’s luck lands her in a “relationship” with Kieran. I don’t want to give too much away because I really did enjoy this one and encourage you to add it to your TBR!
I thoroughly enjoyed “Matriarch”. Our perception of Miss Tina is greatly influenced by the blessings that she has shared with the world, Beyoncé and Solange, so it was so refreshing to read about everything leading up to the world’s meeting of our inherited mother.
I am such a fan of the Knowles girls (arguably a super fan) but, as a fan, this is not a book about Beyoncé or Solange. This is Tina’s story and it has made me love this woman even more!
At her book event, she shared the initial draft was over 1000 pages. She needs to go ahead and drop the part two because I need it!
Maybe because our birthdays are a day apart, I really feel like I understand her! Get you a copy of this book right now!
Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson
“Good Dirt” is a phenomenal exploration of history, race, and class. In this story, an affluent Black family moves to the suburbs but their world’s crash when a home invasion goes wrong killing a member of the family and shattering a family heirloom.
Charmaine Wilkerson captivated me with her writing when I read “Black Cake”. I am even more blown away with the story that was told with “Good Dirt”. This story depicts the challenges of life moving after the death of a loved one, reconciling grief, and finding closure. I really connected with this story because I can only imagine how a parent can continue on after the death of a child while trying to still be present for a child that is living. Wilkerson’s writing style is so spectacular. Many people shy away from short sentences but I love it because it is concise and eases the reader experience. The historical aspects of this book is my absolute favorite. You can tell that this story was well thought out and packaged so well.
A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi
I completely get the hype of this book. It was a wild ride but so many things were just wrong about this love story from falling MADLY in love with your best friend’s boyfriend to cheating TWICE to just being stupid. But somehow I still enjoyed it 😂
I also read the 5th year commemorative book that featured Jamie’s story which confirmed y’all are toxic as hell!
