While I do love a physical book, I am truly a digital books/e-reader type of girl. For years now I have been reading books on my iPad. I finally switched over to Kindle and I hate that it took that long.
For many years, I had fought on getting a Kindle for many years. I have always had an iPad which doubled as my e-reader. I just knew I didn’t want to add another device to all the many devices I already have.
Kindle Unlimited is a Gateway
A few years ago, I signed up for a free trial of Kindle Unlimited. It was one of those trials that I forgot that I had and kept paying for without really using it. Once I made the discovery, I leaned into actually using it. I have discovered so many titles from Kindle Unlimited that I think it is the best money spent. At a time when I wasn’t reading as frequently, it definitely helped me to get back into reading more consistently. Since I was now actively using my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I was forced to download the Kindle app on all my devices. A Kindle Unlimited subscription is definitely an expressway to eventually getting a Kindle. I still believe that it is the best $11.99 spent monthly. Right now you can get Kindle Unlimited for $0.99 for 3 months. That’s a spectacular deal! It’s one of those subscriptions that I cannot live without. So many of my favorite titles are available on Kindle Unlimited particularly books from Jahquel J. and A.E. Valdez. Sign up for Kindle Unlimited right now!
Paperwhite vs. Colorsoft

I have very bad eyesight. My eyesight is so bad to the point that I have been searching for relief on my screen time. But as I have said, I love digital books, in part because I am the biggest advocate for using our free resources such as the public library via Libby. One of my gripes with reading on the iPad is that the blue light is so harsh on the eyes. I asked a poll on my Bookstagram page about whether a Kindle was worth it. One of my mutuals suggested the Paperwhite because it was good on the eyes. I was immediately sold! Just a few days later, the Kindle paperwhite went on sale. I immediately bought it! For me, the Colorsoft was too similar to reading on an iPad. While I appreciate the color ability, I wasn’t willing to pay the price.
Kindle Accessories
I am now on a hunt for the best Kindle accessories. I bought a glitter case which I love but now I need to get a pop socket or some kind of holder. Also, I recently came across this cool pillow that holds the Kindle and your snacks, which is now on my Bookish Wishlist. I also have a page turner remote which I used previously on my iPad that I can also connect with my Kindle.
Buy the Kindle
I don’t know why it took me so long to get a Kindle but I am so glad that I did. Because it is lightweight and somewhat small, it is so easy to always have a book nearby. I may never go back to reading on my iPad and that is very unfortunate.
