Imagine your worst heartbreak. How long did it take you to get over the relationship that you thought would last forever? If you could have taken a single pill to get over that heartbreak, would you do it?
I recently finished Kristina Forest’s book “Heartsick”. After breaking up with her highschool boyfriend, Margot focuses all her attention on finishing her senior year, going off to college, and her internship with Healing Hearts. Until her ex-boyfriend, Issac, showed up at the Healing Hearts clinic. Healing Hearts created a pill that could help heal a broken heart. Learning that the boy she loved was ready to completely forget about their relationship left Margot feeling sad until she learned about the side effects from taking the pill. While working, Margot learned that the center was selling expired pills that were causing patients to have headaches and nausea. Upon discovering this, Margot and Issac end up on a whirlwind adventure finding patients affected by the Healing Heart pill to uncover the truth and make sure no one else gets heartsick.
Although ‘Heartsick’ is a young adult novel, it did spark a curiosity on whether or not it would be worth it to take a pill to completely erase heartbreak. I don’t think I would. I like to feel all the things, even if I don’t ever speak or address them. While a heartbreak can suck, there is often a lesson in there. A signal to what you don’t ever want to experience again. A constant reminder of actions that you don’t want to repeat. While taking the pill could be a temporary fix, you wouldn’t want to erase the good memories despite all the bad.
In Kristina Forest’s book “Heartsick”, the pill is also $500. Now for $500, my answer would be a big HELL NO! $500 is too close to a thousand, which is too close to almost being at Chanel. I know that I am unique in that I know how to turn my feelings all the way off. I would have no problem completely forgetting about that man particularly if money is on the line.
While young adult novels are not really a genre that I gravitate to, Kristina Forest is just one of those authors that you want to pick up every time she drops something. Her writing is so good and so easy to read. Thank you to Colored Pages Book Tour and Penguin Teen for the physical copy of this book. Add it to your TBR now and let me know if would you take the pill to heal a heartbreak.
