The Olympics of fashion took place last night. While the celebs looked great, we must give respect to the stylists who brought the visions to life.
The Theme
The theme for the 2019 MET Gala was Camp.
The essence of camp is its love of the unnatural; artifice and exaggeration. The whole point of camp is to dethrone the serious
Being a fan of Drag culture, Mama Ru (RuPaul) has given me and very brief introduction of Camp culture through various nuggets on Drag Race. Think Lady Bunny (pictured below).
With the understanding of the theme, there are some looks that killed this carpet, and we must thank the stylists behind them.
Luxury Law
@LuxuryLaw (Law Roach) killed Celine Dion‘s look. She looked so regal and glam in her Oscar De La Renta ensemble. I loved this look but did not care for the shoes. Lawd, let me look this good at 51!
Luxury Law also played Fairy Godmother to Zendaya‘s Cinderella-inspired Tommy Hilfiger outfit. While I wasn’t the biggest fan, seeing the reveal on the carpet was truly magical.
Kollin Carter
Cardi kills every carpet that she graces and it is in large part to Kollin Carter. Wearing custom Thom Borne, Cardi really made a statement on the carpet and embodied the theme.
Emma Jade Morrison
I don’t know who Emily Ratajkowski is but her body is crazy and the way this gown looks on her is insane. Emma Jade Morrison worked with Dundas to bring this Cher-like, swan-esque look to life and I am obsessed.
While we are talking about DUNDAS…
I thoroughly enjoyed both of her looks.
Alexandra Mandelkorn
Janelle “Always Slays a Carpet” Monae brought this looks to life! Wearing Christian Siriano, Janelle Monae’s left titty blinked! I am still shocked. The styling is impeccable all thanks to Alexandra Mandelkorn.
And lastly, I loved Solange’s look. While I am not sure who styled her, she wore the hell out of this Ferragamo snake-print look, with matching snake nails to match.
While these were my favorite ladies, there were also many men who shut it down.
Billy Porter and Anderson Paak were two of my favs on the men
