I am grateful that this book was written. As many Black women know, we have to go to extreme lengths for our voices to be heard. In particular, those in power disregard our cries for help. Another added layer is that we often do not know how to deal with our traumas in healthy ways. This books sheds light on this journey from a rather interesting perspective.
To give basic premise of the book, Claudia returns from her summer vacation in the south, ready to embark on her 8th grade school year, and the only thing missing is her best friend Monday. After not showing up to school for weeks, Claudia’s concern grow even more because she feels lost without her best friend. To know the rest, you have to read the book.
I think Tiffany Jackson did a great job in bringing us, the readers, along with Claudia in her quest to figure out the truth. I couldn’t imagine losing my best friends particularly at a pivotal moment such as going into high school. I also couldn’t fathom not knowing the extent of the pain my friends are going through.
It is important to check on your friends, family, etc. We justify the silence between us by saying we are minding our own business but you truly don’t know what someone is going through unless you ask.
For me, the title serves as a double entendre to speak to the plot of the story but to also not hold off on doing something right then and there. We often wait to start our diets or put things off for Monday when plainly Monday is not coming. do it now!
I would recommend you to read this book. It starts slow but once you begin to pick up on the clues that are happening, you probably won’t want to put it down!
