This book has been on To be Read list for a long time and it finally was made available by Libby app.
The Girl with the Louding Voice follows Adunni on her turbulent path of trying to get to school. She is of age where she is expected to marry. The husband that she marries already has two previous wives. The first wife is very mean to Adunni but the second wife takes her under her wig. When the second wife dies, Adunni runs away. She runs away to another abusive situation but she never loses sight of trying to get an education.
That’s all I am going to give!
My Review
This book is hard to get into completely initially because of the broken english. Keep in mind, this is a fourteen-year-old narrator who does not speak English. As she learns the writing gets better. At first I was unsure if I was going to be able to finish this book but in hindsight, I think that is absolutely brilliant. Daré’s mind is truly next level to be able to do such a thing.
As of lately, I have been reading and interested in more books that take place on the continent (Homegoing). I am interested in, one day, traveling to Nigeria. Reading about the setting in Lagos and the surrounding tribes was exciting.
My overall rating of this book is a 3.75 out of 5 stars. I would like to know more about Adunni and whether or not her life had a positive outcome. She was able to overcome so much in so little time that I would love to know what happens next.
