The Air Jordan 1 in the black and gold colorway is by far one of my favorite shoes ever! I am so glad that they were re-released. These are definitely one of my favorite sneaker pickups of the year. However there are some differences between the 2003 and 2020 versions.
Patent Leather is beautiful!
Without a doubt, the patent leather is the best thing about these shoes. The way that they twinkle in the light is everything. This is what attracted me to these shoes from the beginning. The patent leather on the AJ1 is so rare that it definitely just makes you gravitate to it. It also allows for you to dress the shoe up, similar to many of the Air Jordan 11 colorways.
Differences

While the patent leather is true for both versions of the shoe, there are some notable differences. There is no jumpman on the back of the shoe or on the tongue. I would have loved to see something on the back of the 2020 version to fill the empty space. There are also additional gold accents on the 2020 version that the shoe could have done without.
Price
While Jordans are still “affordable”, in comparison to 2003, we are looking at a $50 price increase. Damn inflation! [Source]
Bring back retro cards!
For whatever reason, Jordan did away with retro cards and I would really love if they brought them back! I absolutely love retro cards!
Fun Fact: Jordans are the way I learned how to count in roman numerals.
